The researchgroup of Prof Hongjie Yu in the School of Public Health, Fudan University,Shanghai, China
Professor Hongjie Yuis a doctoral supervisor in the School of Public Health of Fudan University. Hereceived the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2015. Hewas also elected as one of Changjiang Scholars, Ministry of Education of thePeople's Republic of China. He is a member of The WHO Advisory Group of theGlobal Action Plan (GAP AG) for Influenza Vaccines, member of the WHO StrategicAdvisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE) Working Group on influenzavaccines and immunization.
Prof Yu has decadesof experiences in multidisciplinary researches in infectious diseases, including the transmission dynamics, epidemiological parameters, diseaseburden, evaluation of interventions, as well as vaccine efficacy, effectiveness, safety, and cost effectiveness for emerging and re-emerginginfectious diseases with public health
importance, e.g. Ebola, novel animal influenza virusinfections, Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease, Dengue, Rabies, seasonal influenza, pneumococcal and Hib diseases. He has published over 135 articles ininternational peer-review journals, including 5 papers published in The Lancet,2 in BMJ, 4 in PLoS Medicine, 4 in Lancet Infectious Disease, and 1 in NatureCommunications as the first author or senior corresponding author.
The research teamled by Prof Yu is an interdisciplinary group tied closely to infectiousdiseases with great public health importance, and focuses on four researchareas: spatial epidemiology; dynamics, evolution and control ofemerging/remerging infectious diseases; clinical epidemiology; and vaccines. Inthe field of vaccines, the research team aims to undertake targeted,policy-focused research including estimates of disease burden, test of vaccinesfor safety, immunogenicity, efficacy, and effectiveness, evaluation of costeffectiveness, demand forecasting, and budget impact analysis to accelerate newvaccine introduction into Chinese National Immunization Program and to informevidence-based vaccine policy making.

The researchgroup of Professor Heidi Larson at LSHTM
Professor Heidi J.Larson is an anthropologist and Director of The Vaccine Confidence Project(VCP); Professor of Anthropology, Risk and Decision Science, Department ofInfectious Disease Epidemiology, LSHTM; Associate Clinical Professor,Department of Global Health, University of Washington; and Chatham House Centreon Global Health Security Fellow. Professor Larson previously headed GlobalImmunisation Communication at UNICEF, chaired GAVI’s Advocacy Task Force, andserved on the WHO SAGE Working Group on vaccine hesitancy.
The VCP, which is aWHO Centre of Excellence on addressing Vaccine Hesitancy, studies publicconfidence in vaccines using a variety of data sources and methods, seeking tohighlight the importance of the “vaccine confidence gap,” measuring publicattitudes and monitoring the media for signs of emerging confidence issues, developing advice for struggling immunisation programmes, and advancing themethodologies used to study the vaccine confidence phenomenon worldwide. TheVCP’s analyses focus on understanding vaccine hesitancy at a detailed level, going beyond the broad stereotypes of vaccine-hesitant populations, tounderstand what specific concerns people have that create barriers tovaccination. This deeper level of understanding allows public health programmesto respond more intelligently, targeting exactly those issues wheremisunderstandings are most prevalent, and if necessary changing the wayvaccines are delivered to better fit with people’s preferences for bothconvenience and cultural propriety.
